
Burn ban
In Sønderborg Municipality from Thursday 16 June 2023 at 8 a.m. and until further notice
The burn ban means, the following is not allowed:
Using a coal barbecue
This means: Any form of use of barbecue where the fuel has embers (such as coal, wood, briquettes or other fuel that is capable of producing embers) is not permitted – even on own/private property.
Using a barbecue outside own/private property
This means: Any form of use of barbecue (irrespective of whether the barbecue uses coal, wood, briquettes or other fuel) in public/common areas, e.g. car parks, grassy areas, playing fields, parks etc., or in nature, e.g. in woods and plantations, on beaches, on heaths, in fields etc., on or near lakes (closer than 200 metres from shore) and at sea (closer than 200 metres from shore), is not permitted.
Smoking in nature
This means: Any smoking of pipes, cigarettes, cigars, water pipes and any other form of substance lit by embers, flames etc., e.g. in public/shared areas with grass, plants and other vegetation, e.g. grassy areas, playing fields, parks, verges etc., or e.g. in woods and plantations, on beaches, on heaths, in fields etc., is not permitted.
Lighting fires and using open flames outdoors
This means: Any form of bonfire (irrespective of whether it uses coal, wood, briquettes or other fuel), including burning in a brazier, as well as midsummer bonfires, burning of garden waste, forest waste, other waste, straw, reeds etc., and all outdoor use of ovens, fireplaces, torches, garden flares, candles etc., incl. on and near lakes (closer than 200 metres from shore) and at sea (closer than 200 metres from shore), is not permitted.
Using devices/objects that create sparks, embers or flames outdoors
This means: Any kind of use of weed burners, domestic welding of roofing felt etc. with the use of open flame, domestic outdoor use of angle grinders and other equipment that produces sparks or embers, outdoor use of patio heaters etc. and outdoor use of cookers or heaters etc. that use flammable liquids or substances such as spirits, gas, petrol, sulphur etc. is not permitted. This also applies on and near lakes (closer than 200 metres from shore) and at sea (closer than 200 metres from shore).
Using a storm kitchen
Previous information that it was allowed has been revised and it is not allowed to use a storm kitchen, even if the combustion chamber is enclosed, such as on a Trangia.
It is still allowed:
To use a gas grill on own/private land by residence
This means: It is permitted to use a gas grill in your own home if the grill is raised above the ground and placed on a solid, non-combustible surface at a hight of a meter with a circumference of at least one meter from the outside of the grill.
To use gas grills on certain areas
This means: It is permitted to use gas grills on your own property in holiday home areas, allotment gardens, on campsites and the like, if the grill is raised above the ground and placed on a solid, non-combustible surface at a hight of a meter with at least a meter circumference from the outside of the grill, and if the owner has not a ban issued.
NB. The relaxation that comes into effect on 22 June at 09.00 allows you to use gas grills in public spaces, provided the above mentioned safety rules are applied.
Smoking on own grounds and fortified areas
This means: Smoking can take place under normal observance of caution on private land or pavements, roads, parking lots, etc., and if the owner has not issued a ban. Never throw away shutters or other tobacco waste outdoors.
Are you in doubt:
If you are in doubt as to whether an activity is permitted - avoid it for the sake of fire safety. Also, don't leave clear bottles with water or of glass in the nature!
